Takaungu House: Above Takaungu Creek
One of the pleasantly unxepexted gems at Takaungu Creek, for those who like to get away from it all, is the beautifully-appointed Takaungu House. The house itself is of a sizeable scale by any standards, yet, in this backwaters, appears whooping great. Formerly an Arab trader’s paradisal hideaway, the house, with 6 bedroom spread over three floors, is perched on the very end of a secluded coastal bluff. It immerses guests in pristine natural surroundings. The journey itself sets the tone for a getaway, with amazing views of Takungu Creek and secluded beach below.
You’d be hard pushed to find a more middle-budget secluded beach. Activity is rather limited along Takaungu Creek. Intermittently, a small fishing boats lazily glides by, and there’s never more than five people along the beach, making the coastal-walks blissfully peaceful. Up above ground, Takaungu House is set organically into the coastal bluff, surrounded by a rugged rock face, assorted tropical fauna, and pirouetting butterflies. The swimming pool, overlooking Takaungu Creek is, obviously, the main draw for visitors to Takaungu House.
For those seeking adventure, arrangements can be made to access snorkeling, diving excursions to nearby coral reefs, and guided nature walks through the nearby Arabuko-Sokoke Forest. If the above were not sufficient, the traditional, authentic, elegant accommodation and cuisine are legitimately Swahili. Guests can indulge in a variety of culinary delights, from freshly caught seafood grilled to perfection to exotic fruit platters and decadent desserts. Special themed dinners on the beach under the stars add a touch of romance and intimacy to the house.
The décor seamlessly blends contemporary comfort with Swahili craftsmanship, creating a harmonious ambiance. Takaungu House is a great destination for a romantic and intimate reunion with family and friends. The main house and annex can accommodate 9 guests, with adjustable arrangements for more. An adjoining private house can accommodate a further 8 guests. Charges for Takaungu House are, on average, Kes 35,000 per night for 8 guests for the Private House and Kes 45,000 for the Main House, although the prices may be subject to seasonality.
Whether you close your eyes and listen to the Indian Ocean waves lapping the sand, or keep them open and soak up views of the creek, in almost always pleasant tropical weather, you’re guaranteed a relaxing time at the secluded Takaungu House. It embodies the essence of a getaway island, where luxury meets natural beauty and cultural authenticity. Whether lounging by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean or exploring Takaungu Creek, guests are treated to an unparalleled experience of coastal relaxation. It is great value for money, too.

Around Kenya, there is a collection of rare experiences, in middle-budget secluded hideaways, offering guests intimate encounters with parts of Kenya that rarely get under the limelight.
