Ndoro Sculpture Garden: A Shona Culture Expo
A trip to Malindi should not omit a trip to Ndoro Sculpture Garden. This quirky and contemporary garden, strewn with a smorgasbord 300 stone sculptures, stone heads and carvings, celebrating the Zimbabwean Shona sculptures, is an other worldly experience. A well-ordered symbiosis of nature and art. Each sculpture is placed carefully, cheek by jowl with the lawn, planted shrubs and low stone walls. A gem to be chanced upon, surveyed and considered in relation with its mission.
The facial expressions of the sculptures at Ndoro Sculpture Garden appear to be the most interesting; some gazing, some grinning, some with a grimace, some with eyes shut, others looking askance, a few with neutral faces, still others are abstract in facet, looking through you, but all invite you to think outside the box and explore a different world. Carola Rasmussen, the owner, who doubles as the host, takes you around the garden, passionately describing the essence of each.
Ndoro Sculpture Garden is great art center experience, minus the walls. The calmative open air gallery extends to the gift shop, at the end of the walk, where you can buy jewelry and sculptures at reasonable prices. The stone figures are also available for sale. Ndoro Garden is located 2.5 km south of Malindi along Casuarina Road and 1,000 m before White Elephant Art Lodge.

Kilifi can be split into three zones – the narrow coastal plain, varying in width from 3 kms to 20 km; few coastal hills lying below 30 ms asl, and the Nyika Plateau rising from 100ms to 340 ms asl.
For the greater part of the year, the climate along the coastal plain is pleasurable, though humid. Temperature ranges between 21C and 30C along the coast, and between 30C and 34C further inland.
