Kutazama Lodge: Seclusion and Stunning Views

Kutazama Lodge is an amazing secluded getaway nestled at the southern area of Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, within the stunning greenery of the Shimba Hills Conservation Area. Situated about 64 km southeast of Mombasa and a 30-minute drive from Diani Beach, the lodge offers visitors an exclusive and tranquil escape with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Kutazama Lodge has two exclusive suites, each designed to provide utmost repose, comfort, and privacy.

Frangipani Suite is a spacious suite that includes a large en-suite bedroom with double French doors, a private sundeck with a full-moon Jacuzzi set into natural rocks, and a lounging area with open aspects at the front. Orchid Treehouse Villa spreads over two levels, the lower level comprising a large bedroom with carved arched entrance doors, a Jacuzzi deck, and an en-suite bathroom with a double shower. The upper level features a kitchenette, a comfortable lounge, and a raised open deck offering spectacular views across the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary.

Kutazama Lodge, a Swahili term for look or lookout, has been aptly named for the panoramic views across the sanctuary and the river valley, looking beyond to the distant mountain ranges including Mount Kilimanjaro. There are few places in the world with such unique views over miles and miles of unspoiled landscape. Other amenities include: a pleasurable double-tiered pool backdropped by a towering rock face, acres of mature gardens complete with pathways, a main house with a reposeful viewing deck, fully-stocked bar, all with an authentic African-art theme.

For many years now, Mwalunganje Elephant Sanctuary has served as a dispersal corridor for elephants on their migration between Shimba Hills in the south, via Mwaluganje Forest, to Tsavo West National Park in the north. To generate revenue for its maintenance and development there are three lodges: Camp Mwalunganje, east, Travellers Mwalunganje Elephant Camp, north, and Kutazama Lodge, south.
