Amazing Luxury Safari: Galana Conservancy
Nyika Plateau, an extented lowland of cormiphora, acacia, wait-a-bit bush and grassland on a gently rolling relief that gradually rises to merge with Tsavo East National Parks, is one of the harshest region in the Coast Region of Kenya, yet, its is unmistakably a prime safari country. In Kilifi, the Nyika Plateau expands over the area north of Mariakani then west of the coastal range into Tana River County.
This forest and thorn bush country of the Nyika Plateau covers nearly 50% of Kilifi County’s surface area, including Galana Conservancy and seven other smaller conservancies and ranches. The 4,800 km2 Galana Wildlife Conservancy, of a largely semi-arid scrubland, is one of Kenya’s genuine wildlife treasures, offering a truly personal experience of the African bush. This vast un-fenced range is a vital buffer zone for Tsavo East National Park and provides a benign place both for wildlife to roam freely in their natural habitat, and a goodly estate left for ranching.
Galana Wildlife Conservancy has a varied terrain, to be expected of the great African safari plains, which includes rocky hills, seasonal water courses and thickly vegetated scrub. Unique to Galala is that it intertwines agricultural and pastoral development with wildlife conservation, making it an ideal spot to learn about food security and animal migration for researchers and scientists alike while also providing an epic travel destination for those looking for an secluded escape.
For the traveller, there are six elegant camps within Galana Wildlife Conservancy – Kulala, Kudu, Kapama, Kiboko, Shoroa and Crocodile. Galana offers exclusive game viewing on unprecedented levels with out and out wondrous vistas and plenaries. By road Galana Conservancy is 98 km from Malindi via C103 Malindi-Voi Road, safer when dry and ordinarily bumpy. If approaching from Nairobi by way of A104 Nairobi-Mombasa Road, exit into Tsavo East via Sala Gate, after 15 km turn left into Galana’s Kulalu Ranch. It’s reachable via private chartered planes.

Around Kenya, there is a collection of rare experiences, in amazing lodges, offering guests intimate encounters with parts of the world not many get to know – and the chance to slow down and truly discover them. Each lodge is rooted in its local community and dedicated to protecting the habitat and cultures.
