Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge: A Gilded Safari
The dusty but scenic procession of 23 km from Chyulu Gate eventually reaches Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge. In spite of being one of the oldest safari lodges set up in a National Park within Kenya, and the earliest in Tsavo West National Park, the world famous 56-rooms Kilaguni Serena is remarkably one of most revered safari lodges in Kenya. Its design, exceptional hospitality, coupled with a nuance of lovely views all add up to a first-rate safari experience. One of the prominent features of Kilaguni is its splendid verandah, on which visitors can sit all day and watch big and small game of all kinds coming to drink at waterholes in the front.
The verandah looks over Ol Turesh Valley up to Mount Kilimanjaro, framed on the right by the Chyulu Hills, and on the left by Ngulia Range. The appeal of the lodge is capped by its proximity to the fairytale Mzima Springs, Chaimu Crater and Five Sister’s Hills. From here, holiday-makers may also explore the Ngulia Hills Rhino Sanctuary. A full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush makes an ideal start to your day to Lion Rock, a magnificent hump of volcanic rock that rises from the plains and offers great views. It gets its name as a favoured look-out point for the lions of Tsavo, offering both a vantage point and a dais to survey the kingdom.
