Aruba Dam: A Wildlife Mecca in Tsavo East
Most visitors to Tsavo East National Park make Voi Gate the starting-off point into the vast safari empire. Travellers can stay at one of many lodges found here. If one enters the park and takes a drive easterly heading they’ll arrive in 33 km at Aruba Dam. It was sunk in 1952 across the Voi River to create a permanent waterhole for wildlife. Situated on the banks of the Aruba Dam, where many animals including herds of elephants come to water, is Ashnil Aruba Lodge. It directly faces the dam within a landscaped garden with 40 rooms and 6 en suite tents. The lodge lack little in beauty. It is reachable by road and air. From Mombasa Aruba is 160 km.
