Galdessa Camp: Tsavo East National Park
One of Tsavo East’s amazing safari lodges is the Galdessa Camp, a wonderful series of quaint buildings, of the traditional safari camp style thatched roofing, overlooking a beautiful sector of Galana River in the western area of the park; 6 km west of Manyani Gate. Fringed with doum palms and below the Yatta Plateau, Galdessa Camp offers a luxurious yet wild experience for the traveller seeking to immerse themselves in a secluded, secure yet untamed corner of a lovely safari wilderness. Awarded Africa’s Leading Eco tourism Destination (in 2007) by World Travel Awards, living quarters at the chic Galdessa Camp are provided in 14 rooms housed in the traditional thatched bandas, which, although simple in outlook, are tastefully furnished, sufficiently comfortable, and blend in with the wild outdoors.
Three of the rooms can be rejigged without difficulty to setup a private annex for a party or family. Couples and small families can take advantage of the intimately lay out of the honeymoon tent. Two luxury suites have private viewing platforms where staff will be happy to serve your meals. The keen game-enthusiast will find a thrilling experience in just driving around camp, along the Galana River, where a thrilling number of hippos and crocodiles are frequently seen along the waterway. There are also gladsome herds of elephants and buffaloes among the whimsical variability of game and birdlife visitors can enjoy here. Another famous destination is Lugard’s Fall 13 km downstream. Mudanda Rock is not far either. Galdessa was built to encourage tourism to the mid-northern areas of Tsavo East National Park.
