Emusaya Wilderness Zone: Tsavo East
One of the untold launches in the seldom visited northern area of Tsavo East Park, north of Galana River near Ithumba Gate, 80 km from Manyani Gate, is Emusaya Wilderness Zone. Covering about 27% of Tsavo East, flanked by Galana River to the south, is rarely used by visitors and has no permanent accommodation. The greater area of Emusaya Zone has relatively low densities of wildlife, encouraging wide-ranging and alternative activities away from the traditional car-based game drives. This zone continues to have the lowest density of hotel and camp facilities in the Tsavo Conservation Area and is therefore exclusive. To encourage touring of Emusaya Wilderness Zone is the suggested Thabagunji Eco-camp, a permanent eco-lodge and tented-camp, with a maximum of 30 beds, still in planning stage.

The mean temperature in Taita Taveta is 23 Degrees Celsius, cooler around the hills and hotter on the Nyika where the Tsavos sit. Rainfall distribution is uneven, with the highlands receiving higher rains than the lowland areas. Taita mountain sphere receives the highest rains.
