Isiolo Falls: Little-Known and Unexplored

Isiolo Falls in the site of a seasonal waterfalls that flows only during certain times of the year, typically in response to rainfall. It is situated about 9 km northwest of Isiolo town, driving out along the A1 Isiolo-Moyale Road for 5 km, then taking a turnoff just after Isiolo School of Business towards Shambani Primary School. It is less that 1 km from here. Occurring along Isiolo River, where the riverbed course abruptly drops over a rock wall, the cascade of Isiolo Falls, dropping about 20 ft, is heavily dependent on the local climate. Although water flows year-round, the volume is greatly affected by seasonal rainfall. In the dry season, the waterfall is reduced to a transient stream. This accounts partly for the unpopularity of Isiolo Falls as does lack of marketing. It is underdeveloped and lack any amenities.
