Castle Falls: Kamweti Hiking Trail
Castle Falls is the site of a picture-postcard plunge waterfalls of a single cascade dropping vertically about 50 feet, losing contact with the underlying rock surface for much of its length. It gets its name from the long-standing Castle Forest Lodge passed en-route the site. Otherwise, Castle Falls is a part of the series of four falls along Kamweti Route to Mount Kenya dubbed Kang’ere 1,2,3,4 Falls. Castle Falls is often the object of exploration by visitors to Castle Forest Lodge as well as those visiting Ragati Conservancy, found closer to the site. For group hikers and walkers aiming for Castle Falls, and the Kang’ere, the journey starts at Kenya Forest Service Kamweti Gate, near Gitaka village. A forest warden, or two, hired at a rate, usually accompany groups through the forest. It a 16 km round-trip, taking about 6 hours.
