Lake Thai: A Sacred Shrine
Lake Thai is situated deep in the forest of Mount Kenya in the upper part of the forest which starts at Mucheene Forest Station and goes up along the forest. It’s on the same route used to go in the potato farms within these forests. The Njuri Ncheke elders traditionally used Lake Thai as a sacred shrine for worship and offering sacrifices. These were offered at seasons of calamities like prolonged drought and outbreak of epidemics among other adversities. These offering of sacrifices included slaughtering of sheep which used to be of one colour as they chanted ‘thai’ ‘thai’ ‘thai’, hence its self-same title. The word ‘thai’ means peace.
