Kierra Valley: Via The Wildly-Scenic B6 Road
From Chogoria town, in the northeast area of Tharaka Nithi County, it’s only a 10 km drive north via the B6 Embu-Meru Road to Igoji Center and the first gateway township in Meru County. The drive between these two towns and northerly to Nkubu township 16 km away is noted for the breathtaking switchbacks of Kierra backdropped by Kierra Ridge. The Kierra Viewpoint at Kanthiga Village, between Kaaga and Runogone near Meru town, has been in existence for many years and provides the best views of one of the knockout landscapes in this region. The Rift Valley look-alike scenery between Kanthiga village of Kaaga sub-location onward to Runogone sublocation is known locally as “Kierra or Mukera” meaning a valley. The two opposite escarpment provide an unfamiliar view of the area. Set at the door step of Mount Kenya, this vista takes in the ranges, forests, plain and hillocks. A trip to Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties should not omit a visit of this viewpoint.
