Kenya Wildlife Service owns and maintains about two dozen budget-friendly cottages and bandas across Kenya’s National Parks and National Reserves, and, oftentimes, the locations of these bandas are top-drawer. In Trans Nzoia County KWS operates Tree Top Hut, Koitoboss Guest House and Kapkuro Bandas – the latter two located at the footslopes of the tremendous Mount Elgon. KWS Bandas are a perfect launching-point for exploits centered in Mount Elgon National Park.
Kapkuro Bandas consists of four detached cottages, each with one bedroom with a single and a double bed for a maximum of three guests. Each kitchenette is suitably eqipped with a gas cooker and necessary utensils and cutleries. Other amenities include; hot showers, beddings, towels and toiletries. Lighting is by electricity. A house care taker is available on request. Kapkuro Bandas are well priced – resident price Kes. 3,000 / night and non-resident rate of Kes. 5,280 / night. KWS Bandas can be accessed through Chorlim Gate, 30 km west of Kitale.
