Delta Dunes Lodge

A wild place by the ocean, Delta Dunes Lodge, inimitably combining beach, river delta and bush, offers a sui generis experience. Situated 172 km north of Malindi en route Garsen, Delta Dunes Lodge is probably the only place on Kenya’s coast which decorously showcases the pretty Tana River dunes at the river’s mouth juxtaposed with the virgin beaches and the open ocean. Once just a modest lodge with one cabin in 1982, this middle-budget safari lodge is now liked for its lovely vistas, prolific bird life, comfortable ambiance, and assorted sites for exploration.

Today Delta Dunes Lodge has seven classy open-fronted cottages perched on top of sand dunes on the side of low hill, with a central common area and outdoor pool. It is the perfect location to experience this rare ecological set up for a day or two before heading out to Lamu. It has fabulous views overlooking the River Tana to one side and the Indian Ocean to the other. It has a private beach, too. Delta Dunes is a truly an island lodge. Access is via B8 Malindi-Garsen-Garissa Road.

After two hours drive from Malindi you reach a pick-up point where the host with a small boat waits for you to get you across Tana River. In 20 minutes, you arrive at the commendable Delta Dunes Lodge formerly known as the Tana Delta Lodge.
