Provided in good weather, the farm tour are both educational and immersive. The knowledgeable guides, and cheerful, take you through the entire tea production process – from the tea nursery to the mature bushes, memorably trying your hand in the art of traditional tea picking, and finally to the processing, where the leaves are dried and sorted. You get to learned about the different varieties of tea grown on the estate, and in the region, and how they are cared for at different stages.
Even without prior insight of tea farming, Gatura Greens Farm, an Award-Winning farm tour, bring you up to date fast, offering an authentic Kenyan Tea Farm tour experience. It’s a widely enjoyable experience. If the above were not sufficient, the tour includes a stride out to a pretty waterfall, fish pond, well-kept private garden, and ample locations to take amazing selfies. That is also say that the farm tours are ideal for families and groups. A memory for the books. The tour does, of course, include a tea tasting ceremony, lunch, and a refreshing waterfall swim.
The experience begins at 9.30 am, with tea and biscuits, while the host gives an informal history about the farm, followed by an introductory tea tasting before we head out to the purple tea farm. Guests then return back to the farmhouse in time for a farm-fresh 3-course meal, crowning the day with a bonfire in the gardens as guests leave at their pleasure. Guests that would like to visit our specialty cottage factory can do so at this point. For those who would like to stay over, they offer accommodation at the farmhouse, for an authentic overnight stay at a tea farm.
For the avid campers, there us a beautiful camping site by the country home gardens in the middle of a tea farm with incredible views of the tea fields and forest in the background. The camping grounds have access to two outdoor showers, cosy restrooms and two outdoor bath tubs where guests can enjoy an incredible sunset with breathtaking views of the tea fields. This hidden gem is an excellent place to visit for a weekend trip with friends or family! Gatura Greens Purple Tea Farm is located off Thika-Gatura Road, 1.5km from Chomo Market.
