Magemo Dam, self same with all dams in Bungoma County, is an embankment dam: A type of dam that is constructed using natural materials, such as soil, rock, and clay. These materials are compacted to form a stable structure that holds back water.
Earth embankment dams and natural pans are commonly used for water storage, flood control, irrigation, and hydroelectric power generation. One of the smallest dams in Bungoma County, being no more than a communal water pan, the size of half a football pitch, is Muyayi Dam nearby Kabuchai town. Kabuchai sub-county has several other dams; Chwele, Makhonge and Kabuchai. What sets Muyayi Dam apart is its scenic beauty, with farmland landscapes and rock formations.
In addition to its practical functions, Muyayi Dam provides a stunning vista and attracts nature lovers to its pleasant outdoor setting. Of a recent development is the installation of a solar pumping system at the dam and the laying of distribution pipeline to Kisiwa Hills.
