Shaletey Caves: Obscure and Hard to Find
Although their exact location is unspecified, and a moving target among the limited and scanty information available, the original use of the Shaletey caves in Wajir South are widely thought to have been an abode for clan elders who resided and governed from these caves. Limited text, thin on the ground, agrees that during the colonial era the Shaletey caves were utilized as a strategic military disposition for war expeditions, both by the British and Italian forced over the border in Somalia. After the colonial regime left, the locals began to visit Shaletey caves and uncover how these were formerly used by the warfaring tenants and as an indispensable escape during wars. Despite the substantive difficulty in pin-pointing their where-about and limited text, these are listed as historic assets.
