Sabena Desert: A Small Desert
Sabena desert is a large steppe with little or no vegetation, thanks to extreme environmental conditions. Occurring south of Habaswein, on a line east to west parallel to Mado Gashe and Habaswein, it is characterized by vast expanses of arid land with occasional salt flats and sparse vegetation. Like at Kaisut, Karioli and Chalbi deserts further south, Sabena is a barren area of land where little precipitation occurs, resulting in sparse vegetation and limited animal life. The extreme, scorching day-time temperatures are contrariwise to chilly nights.
Another significant desert area in Kenya is the Turkana Basin, west of Wajir County, which includes parts of Turkana County in the northwest. This region is semi-arid to arid and is known for its rugged terrain, rocky landscapes, and occasional dry riverbeds. Lake Turkana, the largest desert lake in the world, is located in this area, providing some relief to the harsh conditions. Despite the harsh conditions at Sabena desert, it is home to unique plants and animals adapted to survive the harsh environments, notably in the perimeter frontiers.
