Tirgaga Tea Factory: Guided Tea Tours
About 7 kms north of Tenwek along C24 Bomet-Tenwek-Silibwet Road lies the Tirgaga Tea Factory, one of 12 tea factories in Bomet County. Started in 2006, along the border of Aisaik and Kabusare Sub-locations, it produces primary grades BP1, PF1 PD, D1, TMF and Secondary grades F1 and Dust grades of tea.
The factory, which is fed by more than 5000 farmers, also runs informative tours that engage guests through the process involved in producing their brands of tea. Visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at how tea is processed. On the tours, guests to the factory learn fermentation, dying, cutting, sieving and tea grading.
The tea tours offer enthusiasts and curious travelers the opportunity to explore tea plantations too, and learn about the tea production process, and immerse themselves in the culture and history of tea-growing regions.
